Bachir Ismaël OUÉDRAOGO

Mr. Bachir Ismaël Ouédraogo, is the minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries. He is an economist and expert in renewable energy economics, sustainable development, climate change risks and policies.  He is a PhD holder in renewable energy economics and climate change, obtained in 2012, from the University of Manchester in England.

He also has a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Human Development, specialising in Social Finance Policy. He obtained this Master’s degree in 2008, from the University of Maastricht, Holland.

At the regional level, Dr Bachir Ismaël OUEDRAOGO has proven himself in several development projects and programmes. He was the coordinator of the ECOWAS project to support entrepreneurship in renewable energy. It is in this capacity that, he was in charge of providing technical guidance and mentoring to entrepreneurs in ECOWAS countries who are active in the field of solar energy by giving them the necessary expertise to set up bankable business plans that allow them to access financing from financial institutions. In this position he has been a key player in the development of the solar industry and technology transfer in ECOWAS countries, facilitating collaboration with international institutions such as IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency).

Dr Bachir Ismaël OUEDRAOGO has also been a lecturer-researcher at the International Institute for Environment and Water (2iE) and at the University of Manchester in England.

Bachir Ismaël OUÉDRAOGO was the Minister of Energy from January 2018 to November 2020. And since 10 January 2021, he is the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries.
